If you are ever fearful to host you first holiday meal, do yourself a favor and plan on ham.
For one thing, it's already cooked! So there's really no risk of sending your guests home sick. Or spending your time anxiously hovering over your stove wondering if the meat is cooked through.
For another, it's damn tasty. I dress mine up with a spiced, honey mustard glaze. Simply brush and bake!
For added punch and flavor, I'd recommend serving your ham with both plain horseradish and creamy horseradish aioli. Horseradish is fun and punchy for those that shoot through the nose kinda spice sensation. Aioli is equally delicious but a bit more tame. I think it's the German in me that requires this accompaniment.
Serve it hot, cold or room temp. Whatever you fancy! During the holiday season, I tend to plan ahead and bake off the ham, store in the fridge, and bring to room temperature on the counter before serving the next day. This leaves my oven WIDE open for all the tasty sides and casseroles that come hand and hand with the holidays.
